The MSTD program offers a dynamic integration of creative design and cutting-edge technology, equipping students for successful careers in the textile design industry. Designed for individuals with a diverse range of academic and professional backgrounds, the program supports diverse pathways to professional and creative growth. Its unique structure provides a strong technical foundation across all areas of textiles, allowing students to develop specialized expertise in knit, weave, or print. Collaborative projects with students from other majors, along with industry-sponsored competitions, broaden students’ perspectives and prepare them for real-world challenges.
Learning Goals/Outcomes
- Develop an appreciation of the multifaceted nature of textile design and the technical knowledge, skills, design, and development processes and business structures required for a professional career in textiles
- Practice sustained visual research through original observation and trend information
- Apply visual research and technical skills into a collection of knitted, woven or printed textiles
- Produce a final body of textile design work—a fabric collection for exhibition and portfolio— exhibiting individual concept and development
- Produce an account of their final semester collection in thesis format for inclusion in the Gutman Library collection.
