VDES 101: Design Essentials
This foundation design course explores the basic elements and principles of 2D and 3D form, and their application in the design process. Line, shape, mass, space, texture, value and color are introduced as fundamental and interrelated components necessary in structuring solutions to problems in design. Students will engage in projects that encourage creative expression in a visual and tactile context, while exploring the interaction of ideas and materials.
The course is an introduction to the design process as an integral part of Animation and Digital Media, Textile Design, and Visual Communication Design, and is a prerequisite to those majors.
